TAPE ME OUT!

arveene and i invaded bristol last weekend for a great friday night with the TAPE boys. they run an incredible monthly club night in the Arc Bar with previous guests like Mook&Toof (Tiny Sticks), Nightmoves (Kitsune) and the Italoboys. they're probably best known for the TAPE BLOG - one of the best blogs on the internets. check it for regular updates, great mp3 links, superb mixes (by residents and guests) and rambling witty writing. The three guys (richard carnage, puffin jack and mr soft) took really good care of us, so to repay the favour we're having them back to dublin this weekend to play for the Family night at Wax. Family has been going from strength to strength over the last few weeks and they've been full to capacity and turning crowds away after 1am - so hopefully this week will be no exception. i'll be getting things warmed up with some fromage disco and then the boys will be rocking it from 12.30 until closing. come down and check it out and if you'd like guestlist just email me or leave a comment below.
richard and puffin have put together a really nice mix to promote the gig too - you can download it HERE or listen in to hear it played on johnny moy & arveene's show on spinFM on saturday night.

i'm playing this weekend at 52funk. always great craic, this is my favorite night in town to play at - they've got the soundest promoters and a crowd that really know their stuff and love to party. last time i was at a 52funk night i was a bit worse for wear and got caught skinning up in the corner by the owner and asked to leave. but i'll be on my best behaviour on saturday though - got loads of great new records so it should be a wicked night.
next week i'm back in the pod for Antics on wednesday. last time we were there we had the place rammed - couldn't believe almost 700 fuckers came out on a wednesday night! i went out for a smoke before i started and nearly shat myself when i saw the queue down harcourt street. it'll be me, and backlash boyos jon averill and steve reynolds lashing out indie disco punk in the main room all night long.

After smashing the arse out of MARLEY PARK as one of the
chosen few acts who where warming up for and hand picked by DAFT
PUNK...JUSTICE finally make it to town to play a one off show in the
MUSIC CENTRE... The reaction to the set XAVIER JUSTICE dropped was
amazing. He killed it with plenty of their own personal re-edits and up
front club bangers to a hyped crowd on the wet and rainy grounds of the
south-side suburban public park, keeping the amped crowd of over 15,000
buzzing in anticipation of the main event....If this stint is anything
to go by, DAFT PUNK themselves may soon be making way for the latest
leaders of the French music revolution as they smash and grab their way
to the top of the pile...
If you want an idea of what to expect please click the link below, turn the volume up

If you like what you have just seen then you are now ready for
the story behind a modern day club classic so please read on...
PEDRO WINTER, Head honcho at ED BANGER RECORDS came across
XAVIER and GASPARD from JUSTICE at a RACLETTE PARTY* (please see link
below) after sharing some fine red wine, ham and pickles with the two boys.
Pedro fell in love with their bedroom recorded remix of SIMIAN'S
'NEVER BE ALONE'. The track was actually intended for a remix contest but
headed directly to PEDRO's office instead. His label ED BANGER Records put
the EP out and it goes on to smash clubs from Dublin to Durban and beyond
all realms of club consciousness…
The record, which only keeps the screaming chorus vocals
from the original SIMIAN song is an out right club hit. It slays dance
floors across the globe and is supported by all the right heavy weight
DJ's. EROL ALKAN, TIGA, 2 MANY DJ's, ANDREW WEATHERALL, DJ HELL, IVAN
SMAGGHE and EWAN PEARSON to name but a few all get behind it and riots
ensue, across dance floors the world over. Kids from various back
grounds are seen chanting the whole track, while dancing their cotton
socks off and knowing every second of every single break and bass line
completely by heart…following the success of this club bomb they have
been asked to rip up and remix everyone from N*E*R*D*, VICARIOUS BLISS,
SCENARIO ROCK, post-hardcore phenoms DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 (RIP),
SOULWAX, MYSTERY JETS, DAFT PUNK and FRANZ FERDINAND...
This gig is going to kick like a mule, so please don't sleep on this one,
miss it at your peril...
Peace
Arveene

CHOICE CUTS

Choice Cuts have the dublin hip hop scene stiched up - they get over the best artists, throw the coolest parties, and have the best resident djs. they've got a new improved website on the go with podcasts, archived shows, the most amazing scratching video you've ever seen (by tu-ki), a gallery... the works. i managed to drag choice cuts head honcho mark murphy/dj scope behind the decks to cut up a few records last weekend at the garden party, so as payback i reckon it's only right get a plug in.
there's an amazing new mix on the site by loughlin aka Rizm and it's easily the best hip hop mix tape i've heard in years. he recorded it live this summer at the annual red bull music academy get-together at the sonar festival in barcelona and it's well worth a listen.
